As part of a community impact initiative designed to educate and empower teens and young adults to engage in job search readiness early in their academic careers, SuperNova Resumes has just announced the release of the Teen & Young Adult Resume Prep Course. This is a free 1-hour, live, online course facilitated by Nova Yeoman-Forrestall, professional resume writer, and CEO of SuperNova Resumes.
This course is designed to teach some basics that include defining the resume, its parts, and its purpose. During the presentation, participants will also see applicant tracking system (ATS) compatible resume samples. However, this course is unique in that it focuses more on the prep work that goes into resume writing rather than the writing itself. According to the course facilitator, “Many job seekers do not realize that one of the most important factors in resume writing is the preparation that should go into it. Without laying a proper foundation, a resume is not as effective. Learning these skills early can be a game-changer for those entering the job market.”
As part of the course, there is an interactive resume preparation worksheet that allows each class participant to consider the contributions that they could make to the workforce, even if they have little or no formal job experience. “The worksheet was designed to specifically elicit information from the students that can help them see their accomplishments and value as marketable qualities that hiring managers may be interested in. This type of exercise is an important first step in the career development process”, notes the CEO of SuperNova Resumes.
This virtual course is being held either via Zoom or Google Meeting. Since parents are usually tasked with the difficult job of helping their teens or young adult children to construct a first-time resume, parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the course.
