Job Fairs are a great way to meet recruiters and hiring managers from across a variety of industries and companies, which can be an effective part of your job search. But, with the diversity in jobs being presented at these fairs, what should your resume look like? Keep in mind these 3 factors:
1. One-Size does NOT fit all! This cannot be stressed enough! Your resume should NOT be a “general” resume that lists your job history and is mass-produced to be handed out at every booth at the fair. Knowing what you are good at, what job you qualify for, and what job you really want is key to creating a resume that can speak volumes and work efficiently on your behalf.
2. Research the companies and the jobs that will be present at the job fair, before working on your resume. That’s right! Find out what jobs, if any, are a match for your qualifications, and then tailor your resume to those jobs. That means you may have to craft more than one resume. However, this extra work will pay off in the end because not only will you be more prepared, but you will stand out to employers who will, unfortunately, encounter mostly those one-size-fits-all resumes from other candidates.
3. Attach a Cover Letter with each tailored resume. Now that you have researched the companies and jobs that will be present at the job fair and targeted resumes to highlight how your professional experience matches the requirements for each role, adding a cover letter will be the icing on the cake. Include additional details about your background, values, and interests as they relate to the company, its mission, and overall goals.
At the end of the day, it’s important to consider if a particular Job Fair is worth your time. You may be eager to find your next job but be selective about where you spend your energy and your time. Work smarter – NOT harder. If you would like help with tailoring your resume to specific positions being offered at job fairs, SuperNova Resumes can help. Get Started today!
